Thousands Protest At Queen’s Park against Sex Education Curriculum
Thousands of protesters, many of them parents, are protesting at Queen’s Park against sex education curriculum which is being proposed by the country’s liberal government. Most of the people who were taking part in the protest were holding signs which called the sex education curriculum irresponsible and completely unacceptable adding that most of the parents were not consulted with regards to the new sex education curriculum.
The protest itself took place on the front lawn of the Ontario legislature.
Jack MacLaren and Monte McNaughton, Progressive Conservatives MPP’s, were the only legislatures who were brave enough to address protesters who seeking to address their complaints with regards to the new proposed sex education curriculum.
This is the second time that the liberal government is attempting to revise its sex education curriculum. Back in 1998 the government was successful in updating the curriculum but they have been keen on changing it given that back in 1998 Smartphones were not that popular and sex texting was still a relatively new thing.
Under the new changes, students in Grade 3 will be taught same-sex relationship while students in Grade 4 and up will be taught about the dangers of online bullying. Lastly students who are in Grade 7 will be taught about the dangers which are involved with sexting.
Grade 5 and Grade 4 students will start being taught about puberty while students in Grade six will also be taught about “gender expressions” and masturbation.
Kathleen Wynne, who has come out as openly gay, came out after the protest and stated that most of the protesters who took part in the protest were motivated by homophobia.
